I just lost to a 10-year old at basketball.
I guess that’s the truth.
I went and applied for a substitute teaching job and I wore this outfit. After I applied I went to the hoops outside and starting shooting jumpers. I have to take advantage of the nice days while I can. So I was shooting for a while, I don’t know what the record time is for shooting Js while wearing a cardigan and neck tie (probably held by James Harden), but I’m sure I came close to the record. So as school got out, this kid come out and watched me, he must have been like 10 or 11, looked like a mini Perk. He eventually asked if he could shoot too. So he started shooting, and I was rebounding and passing it back to him. He couldn’t hit the rim from the free throw line. After finally hitting one shot from about 3 feet away, he challenged me to “2 on 2”, even though there were only two of us. So we played. I didn’t raise my hands on defense, I kept them behind my back, but I would just step in his direction so he would try to juke. He dribbled maybe 60% of the time, and didn’t ever clear it. I tried for the rebound 30% of the time, when I got it, I’d dribble around a little bit and keep him between me and the basket, then I’d back up and launch a half court shot every time. When I hit one he asked what the score was. I told him I thought it was tied (even though he was yet to hit one) and said next shot wins. So he kept shooting and missing and I kept letting him rebound. Finally after about 5 minutes of this, he finally hit one. I told him that I’d win next time, he asked how I’d do that, and I said I’d practice. And that’s the story about how I lost in a game of “2 on 2” to a 10-year old.
I never said it was a good story.
